Lagaet hits the beat in Barcelona
The Portuguese wins the BC One Spain Qualifier 2011 ensuring his participation in Russia in November to compete in the World Final Barcelona, July 3 2011
This evening, Teatre Grec hosted one of the most prestigious B-boying international events. More than 1,400 people have attended Red Bull BC One Qualifier and witnessed the victory of the Portuguese Lagaet, who has already ensured his participation in the World Final, where the best 16 B-boys in the world will compete on November 26th in Russia.
On his way to the final, Lagaet has battled one-on-one against EzMike, Niggaz, Khalil and Menno, who was the other finalist.
The winner said just after the competition that he was surprised as he wasn’t sure to participate until a few days ago. Lagaet went through surgery recently due to an injury in his knee. His physician advised him this week not to take part in the event but he had been training hard and he didn’t want to miss this great opportunity.
Apart from Lagaet, other 15 European B-boys have participated in Red Bull BC One Spain 2011: Menno (Netherlands), Hurricane Ray (Netherlands), Xisco (Netherlands), Kido (Netherlands), Khalil (France), Niggaz (France), Grazy (Spain), Sunni (UK), Airdit (Germany), Lagaet (Portugal), Bruce Almighty (Portugal), Soso (France), Lawson (Belgium), Armstrong (Ireland), EzMike (Switzerland) and Chey (Spain).
The 16 contenders have shown a high and demanding level and a remarkable physical condition, measuring up to that of many sport professionals.
In its decision, the jury, formed by Extremo (Zaragoza), Ronnie (USA) and Vartan (Germany), has considered issues like originality, fluency, innovation, grounds, style, rhythm and the use of space and tempos of the 16 contenders, as well as their character and good reputation in the B-boy scenario.
Since its beginnings in 2004, Red Bull BC One has turned into one of the most significant international break-dance competitions.
