The number thirteen is lucky for some and this year Krystal Klear, a young 23 year old called Dec Lennon from Dublin, is among 60 selected participants - producers, vocalists, DJs, instrumentalists, and all-round musical mavericks from around the globe - who have come together for the 13th Red Bull Music Academy, held in Madrid this week.

Krystal Klear is currently enjoying Term 1 of the Red Bull Music Academy where he has attended lectures, collaborated with other artists in the studio, made valuable musical contacts and shown his talent at various live performances.

Set in one of the most remarkable industrial architecture sites of early 20th century Madrid, the exceptional surroundings of Matadero Madrid is an industrial complex which is currently being transformed into the Spanish capital’s biggest centre for contemporary creation, a perfect playground for musical expression and inspiration.

Krystal Klear who was born and raised in Dublin, making music his whole life. He was at first inspired by Hardcore Punk and Metal but then begun playing lead guitar and gigging around Ireland.

His major inspiration was always Boogie, Funk and Hip-Hop - leading him to create the Krystal Klear moniker in 2008. Since early 2010, Krystal Klear has recorded an exclusive mix for the now defunct (but forever infamous) Mary Anne Hobbs BBC Radio 1 show, been chosen as a resident for the successful Hoya: Hoya club night in Manchester, toured the U.S.A (stopping off at Dam Funk's Funkmosphere night) and garnered love from XLR8R, Mixmag and Dazed & Confused.

Being renowned as a firecracker live and a versatile DJ, his recent sets at the Warehouse Project, Doldrums’ and The Producers House club nights playing everything from modern boogie and new jack swing to Chicago house and Anita Baker have solidified his presence on the U.K club circuit.

Brodinski, FACT Mag and Juno have all named him' One to watch in 2011' and recent shows in Hamburg, Amsterdam and London have gained hype from the European audience

Krystal Klear has participated in Workshop 1, where he and his other music loving successful applicants heard lectures from both pioneering eccentrics of old and trailblazing sound rebels of the present, this is followed by late-night recording sessions putting that breadth of knowledge and inspiration into practice custom-made studios.

Then there’s the chance to perform in some of the host city’s most iconic clubs and concert halls. And there's still plenty of time to check gear, chat on tunes, jump on live radio broadcasts, get a glimpse into local musical hybrids, and ask the questions you were always keen on asking, as well... If you ever chat with any past alumni, they often describe the experience as a game changer.
