Eugene Laverty has been crowned Motorcyclist of the Year at the Irish Racer Awards in Belfast, following in the footsteps of his brother Michael.
The 23-year-old Parkalgar Honda rider beat off competition from last year’s winner and Red Bull stablemate Jonathan Rea, who finished second, while Ryan Farquhar came third.
The honour caps off a magnificent year for Laverty, who also claimed the prize for the top short circuit rider, again ahead of Rea.
He was runner-up to Cal Crutchlow in the 2009 World Supersport championship, winning four of the season’s 14 races as he finished just seven points behind his Yamaha rival.
Rea, meanwhile, picked up the online award for International Race of the Year for his victory at Misano in his maiden year in the World Superbike Championship for the Dutch Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team.
