Although the guest list for next year's Red Bull Music Academy in London is yet to be revealed, it’s already possible to see a few musical trends developing…

More than 2,000 musicians have applied for one of the 60 places at the 2010 Music Academy, which brings some of the most promising emerging popular musicians from all over the world together with some of the planet’s most influential established recording artists. The list of guests is still to be announced but an exit poll suggests three main musical directions:

1. ELECTRO-FIED HIP HOP
Kanye West, T-Pain and Lil Wayne have all used Auto-Tune recently as the cross-pollination of hip hop and electro continues. The two genre have long been bedfellows, but with acts like Justice, Daft Punk, Mr Ozio, A-trak, Cassius, and DJ Mehdi pushing the compression envelope, the sound has never been louder. Here are some prime examples of where hip hop beats meet electro attitude.

Amanda Blank (Downtown, Philadelphia)
Débruit (Civil Music, Paris)

2. EMERGING MUSICAL NATIONS
As the world gets smaller and smaller, and music technology even more affordable – so Europe and the US are no longer at the cutting edge of musical trends. The Academy has had applications from as far afield as South Korea, Angola and Kazakhstan. Check out these two acts:
Buraka Som Sistema (Enchufada,  Lisbon)
Culoe de Song (Soulistic Music, Innervisions, Durban)

3. BANDS ON THE RUN
This year has seen more applications from more band members than ever, and electronic producers have never been more aware of the energy live musicians can bring to the studio. With plenty of influential bands appearing on Red Bull Music Academy Radio, the gap between producer and performer keeps getting narrower. Here are two shows with bands who bridge that gap with ease and style.
Animal Collective (Domino, Baltimore)
múm (Fatcat, Reykjavik)

The list of participants for the Red Bull Music Academy 2010 in London will be announced on October 12.
