We are very pleased to invite producers, instrumentalists, vocalists, and DJs to step up and submit before April 4th 2011.
But before potential applicants start to think about packing up their kimonos, they can begin the adventure right here in Dublin on Saturday 19th March! T Block, Smithfield will play host to a very special workshop evening where innovative musical figures will share their own perspectives on life in the musical lane offering advice and generally giving insight.
Ex-RBMA participant, Olan O’Brien aka OB from All City Records is one such figure. When Olan O’Brien and DJ Splyce opened All City in Dublin in 2001 to sell hip-hop tunes and graffiti supplies, O’Brien knew that he also wanted to start a label. A decade on, the shop is still thriving (unlike so many of its peers), and the All City record label is really going gangbusters.
Joining OB is well known Irish music maker David Kitt. David Kitt’s sixth LP, The Nightsaver, is the result of two years of late-night experimentation, 80-hour weeks, caught in the reverie of writing and recording in a home studio at the top of a winding staircase somewhere along Dublin’s Grand Canal. David plans to take guests at the Workshop through the story of a song from the
moment of original inspiration through to writing and recording.
If that wasn’t enough to whet your musical appetites, we will also feature an exhibition of work from ex academy participant B+ (aka Brian Cross). Author of “Its Not about a Salary: Rap Race and Resistance in Los Angeles” Rolling Stone Music Book of the Year, the Limerick born photographer and painter will show an exhibition entitled GhostNotes: An exploration of the relationship of photography to music through 20 years of music photography, will run on both Saturday and Sunday (19th & 20th of March) which will be open to the public.
Brian+ will join the Workshop as a speaker on Saturday evening also.
After the infosessions there will be a special club night taking place with B +, David Kitt and special guests in The Grand Social, 35 Lower Liffey Street .
