Red Bull Music Academy World Tour 2011 - Photo.jpg

Having already pitched up in such iconic places as Berlin, Toronto, London, Madrid, Melbourne and Cape Town, the Red Bull Music Academy will be taking New York in 2012… And they want you to join them!

The latest stop on the world-conquering Red Bull Music Academy tour is perhaps the most influential city of all time, a place that’s been inspiring artists since its earliest incarnation: New York City.

NYC has been immortalized in the pantheon of music - incubating genres like hip-hop, disco, house, bop, no-wave, and post-punk among many others. It’s a place where people from all nations collide, bringing music, culture and attitude with them.

So it’s perhaps not all that surprising that the Red Bull Music Academy is gearing up to become part of this sonic kaleidoscope later this year. From September 30 until November 2, the globe-trotting music lab and festival will set up shop in the city for five weeks of workshops, concerts, club nights, and all-round musical extravaganzas held all across the boroughs.

Already signed up to take part in the Academy are the legendary likes of post-minimalist genius Steve Reich, jazz funkster Don Blackman, hip-hop producer Pete Rock, soul and funk icon Roy Ayers, house pioneer Frankie Knuckles, urban Afrobeaters Antibalas, super-producer Mark Ronson and the legendary Chuck D.

Now the doors are being opened to producers, vocalists, instrumentalists and DJs across all genres who will be at least 21 years of age by September 30. If you’re interested in travelling to The City That Never Sleeps, visit www.redbullmusicacademy.com to get an application form and send it off with a selection of your tunes before April 2, 2012.

But before potential applicants start to think about heading to the Big Apple, they can begin the adventure right here in March. Red Bull will be running a series of introductory Workshops to give insight to prospective participants on what the Academy is all about. The Harlem Café, Belfast (2nd March) and  No 5 Spencer Dock, Dublin (3rd March) will play host to this very special forum where innovative musical figures will share their own prospective of life in the musical fast lane.

One such figure is Kerri Chandler. Kerri Chandler is a vortex where tradition and innovation meet. Tradition as in the soulful roots of Jersey house, innovation as in the streamlined, sparse arrangements and shrewd use of technology. Kerri masters rhythm and space.

Joining Kerri is legenadary hip hop producer Just Blaze aka Justin Smith from Paterson, NJ. The CEO of Fort Knocks Entertainment is best known for producing hits from Jay-Z's Blueprint, Blueprint 2 and The Black Album. He also produced a number of songs on Eminem's most recent album, Recovery. He's worked with Busta Rhymes, DMX, Fabolous, Snoop Dogg, Talib Kweli to name but a few.

Each workshop will be followed by a Q&A session where you are invited to grill both Kerri and Justin with weird, wonderful and testing questions.

Just to round things off nicely, Red Bull Music Academy presents Kerri Chandler live at the Stiff Kitten on Friday 2nd March and Just Blaze live at the Academy (Green Room) on Saturday 3rd March.
Tickets for both are available through www.ticketmaster.ie

Places at the workshops are available on a first come first basis through ashlee@admarketingevents.com

Keep checking out www.redbullmusicacademy.com and www.redbull.ie for the latest developments on what is sure to be the biggest and best RBMA event ever.
