Take the world's best bodyboarders, one wild wave and Red Bull Web TV and you have all the key ingredients for the 2010 IBA El Fronton Invitational...
The competition, streamed live on Red Bull Web TV, will be held on a single day, with an 11-day waiting period between December 10-21 ensuring that the boarders benefit from the best possible conditions.
Based in the Canary Islands, El Frontón is the perfect platform to showcase performance bodyboarding at its most extreme. Regarded as one of the wildest waves on the planet, El Frontón is feared and respected for its raw power breaking on a shallow reef set among the striking cliffs of Gran Canaria.
El Frontón is also known for its amazing ramps which allow the riders to launch themselves into the air in some of the most spectacular action witnessed in any form of surfing.
The 16 athletes chosen to compete in the competition dubbed 'Wild Wild Wave' comprise 12 internationals and four local participants. Featuring eight past and present world champions, the line-up is arguably the best field ever assembled for competitive bodyboarding.
The event format will see four, 30-minute heats and one, 40-minute final, providing over four hours of action-packed entertainment.
Two-time World Champion Damian King said: “I think the event at El Frontón will be the most prestigious in the world. This is one event that everyone is going to want to win!”
