World champion Lindsey Vonn missed out on a World Cup hat-trick in the Canadian Rockies as she lost out to Austria's Elisabeth Görgl in the Super-G at Lake Louise, Alberta.

Having become the most successful female competitor ever at the Canadian resort by claiming back-to-back wins in the season-opening FIS World Cup downhill double header on Friday and Saturday, Vonn came up just short.

'It's always a little bit tough to lose by three one-hundredths' - Lindsey Vonn

The 25-year-old alpine queen finished just 0.03s adrift of Görgl's winning time of 1m 21.91s, while France’s Ingrid Jacquemod was third.

Vonn, who had been quicker than Görgl on the upper reaches of the 2,026m course, said: "I was happy with my run, but it's always a little bit tough to lose by three one-hundredths. It's such a small margin.

"Obviously Lizzy had the better run today and I'll have to look at the video and see where I can make up time for the next race."

Görgi’s victory, her first Super-G success, was the first for the Austrian women's team in the seven World Cup races this season.

The 28-year-old Austrian reflected: "We have big expectations on us and we haven't been that good in the last races. I won this race for the whole team."

The next women's World Cup races – a slalom and giant slalom – take place in Åre, Sweden, next weekend, while the Val d'Isère, France, will play host to the next speed events from December 16.
