We would ask everyone to listen to and follow any instructions from the Red Bull Flugtag team and our marshals.
Back to TopSo what are the prizes?
1st Prize is flying lessons at one of Ireland's top flying schools, but if you've had enough of heavy landings by then you could just take the €3,000 and fly. 2nd Prize gives our runner-up the chnace to take to the skies once more... in a microlite plane with a fully qualified instructor. If gliding's not your thing, you can take €1,500 instead. 3rd Prize is a tandem parachute jump. The team will get to jump out of a plan at 15,000 feet. If you've had your flying fix you could just take the €1,000 instead
Rules
All flying machines must be launched from the 6m high runway using only human power.
No auxiliary lifting devices, power sources, or stored energy (e.g. elastic, batteries, clockwork springs, rocket fuel etc.) may be used.
Modified aircraft – e.g. paragliders, hang-gliders, jet-fighter planes, light aircraft, commercial jets etc. – are not permitted.
Pilots are not permitted to be physically attached to the flying machine.
The wingspan of your flying machine must be less than 9m.
The wheelbase of the flying machine can be no more than 4m wide.
The maximum weight of your flying machine is 200kg (without a pilot) - any heavier and our salvage teams might drown.
All flying machines must have some kind of buoyancy device on all major parts of the plane to avoid them submerging on landing.
All competitors must wear the buoyancy aid and helmet provided by the event organisers.
For their own safety, all competitors must be able to swim unassisted a distance of 100m.
Teams may have no more than 4 members, including one pilot and a team captain (the pilot can also be the team captain).
All team members must be 16 or over by the entry deadline of Friday 8th April 2011.
The chosen flying machines, their pilots and ground crew, must arrive at Carlisle Pier on Saturday 21st May, where air traffic control will guide them in to the hangar.
In order to avoid unnecessary delays, each of the chosen crews will receive both directions to the hangar and a specific arrival spot.
From 12 - 4pm on 21st May our team of Flugtag scrutineers will check all flying machines for airworthiness.
For safety, changes may need to be made to the flying machine at the discretion of the scrutineers.
Approved flying machines will take off from the runway over Dun Laoghaire from 1pm on Sunday 22nd May.
After the flight all flying machines will be cleared by our water safety crew and gathered in our bone yard.
Unfortunately our salvage teams cannot return any part of your flying machine, so don’t use anything you’re not prepared to leave at the bottom of the sea.
